DEEP LISTENING

Deep Listening is one of the core values of End of Life service, and we invite you to explore the beauty of this practice with us.
Deep Listening is in and of itself a contemplative practice. As a deep listener, you are encouraged to engage your full senses in listening to the story your storyteller is telling. Notice if a desire to interrupt or respond in an autobiographical way comes up for you. Can you imagine how this might feel to the storyteller?
During our practice we also practice the art of sharing a story within a specific time frame. As you practice this, notice what comes up for you. Do you feel that you can comfortably fill the allotted time with your storytelling? Do you need more time or less? Why?
Deep Listening is a gift we can give the people we serve. This is the time that we can show honor and respect to the person who is dying by listening fully to their stories, even if we’ve heard them a hundred times.
